Debate Moot Court

Welkom-Gimnasium participates in the Goldfields Debating competitions, which is comprised of two parts: One Day Tournaments and the League.

  • One Day Tournaments
  • These tournaments are held in Term 1 and Term 3. We entered two teams one Junior (Gr 8 & Gr 9) and one Senior (Gr 10 -12), for these tournaments.
  • League
  • The league consists of 7 rounds, spanning over 3 Saturdays. We entered two teams one Junior (Gr 8 & Gr 9) and one Senior (Gr 10 -12), for the league.
  • The Junior team is the Lejweleputswa winners for 2023, and Kano Mavundla is the overall best speaker in the Junior category.

We have also accomplished top achievers who have competed nationally on School level and University level.
We practice twice a week (Mo & We). Our coaches, Mrs G. Jones, Ms S. Herbst and Mr T. Mafatle. Collectively these coaches have many years of experience in debating. Our coach, Mr T. Mafatle, is an old Gimmie, who participated in an international debating competition in Europe in July 2019.
